Health Professions Database

Logo - HFO jpgOur healthcare system relies on a range of health professionals, each with unique expertise, to meet the health needs of Ontarians. However, in the past, we did not have a good grasp on the profile of these professions. For example, we knew very little about how many people were practising in these professions, where they were working, and whether Ontario had the right combination of these professionals to meet future needs. The Health Professions Database is a significant step towards having a truly representative snapshot of Ontario's regulated healthcare workforce.

Allied Health Human Resources Database Minimum Data Set

The healthcare system relies on a number of health professionals with unique expertise to provide services that meet the health needs of Ontarians. Currently, there is limited information available on 40% of the regulated health workforce in Ontario that provides valuable services to individuals in areas such as diagnostics, mental health, obstetrics, oral and vision care, rehabilitation and therapeutics. As part of the government's health human resources strategy, called HealthForceOntario, the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and the allied health regulatory colleges of Ontario worked together to create the Allied Health Human Resources Database (AHHRDB) Minimum Data Set (MDS). Briefly, the MDS identfies the list of standardized data elements and associated values with definitions to collectively comprise the data standard for the AHHRDB.
