Project Title: A Process, Outcome and Economic Evaluation of the Markham Stouffville Hospital C-Section Reduction (MSH-CARES) Initiative
Project Description: As a doctoral trainee with the Ontario Training Centre in Health Services and Policy Research, I am working with Dr. Bourgeault to explore ways of scaling up a multifaceted intervention (involving patient, provider and policy-focused interventions) to reduce Cesarean-section rates from a local hospital level to a health region level in Ontario

Project Title: Understanding policies targeting Community Health Workers/Lay Health Workers (CHWs/LHWs)/Personal Support Workers’ (PSWs) in caregiving and chronic disease prevention and management with immigrant and aboriginal populations in Ontario
Project Description: This project focused on understanding the legislative framework and identifying any policies about personal support workers (PSWs)/lay health workers (LHW) in caregiving and especially those targeting immigrant and aboriginal populations in Ontario This project used three research strategies: A) literature review and document analysis of published literature; B) key informant interviews with policy makers at the provincial and federal level; and, C) informal stakeholder survey with representatives from local and regional public health and primary care agencies and institutions. Through these strategies this project identified health human resources issues for PSWs/LHWs in publically funded homecare and long-term care homes, as well as in private homes. Private home care was included in the project because it arose when using the terms “immigrants” and “care workers” Status Completed between fall 2010 and spring 2011

Project Title: A Pan Canadian Perspective on the Successful Integration of Internationally Educated Nurses
Project Description: This research will examine the reasons why some internationally educated nurses are successful in becoming nurses in Canada, and identify the programs available to help them pass a licensing examination and find work in their profession. Information from this research can be used to develop and modify educational programs and social program to assist internationally educated nurses become eligible to practice their profession and find work in Canada. Employers and regulatory agencies can use the information to develop strategies to retain internationally educated nurses in Canada.
